Caregiver
Canada has a long history of inviting caregivers to assist in the economic and social development of the country. One of the reasons Canada has a world-class immigration system is because the country is constantly updating its immigration rules and programmes. In this vein, Canada has just changed its caregiver paths to permanent residency. It is now piloting two programmes for carers seeking permanent residency. Additionally, the pilots enable candidates to get temporary work permits while they await permanent residency. The first is dubbed the Pilot for Home Child Care Providers. The second is dubbed the Pilot for Home Support Workers.
Each programme admits a maximum of 2,750 primary candidates every year, for a total of 5,500.
Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot
Both the Pilot Program for Home Child Care Providers and the Pilot Program for Home Support Workers provide permanent residency to caregivers who satisfy the following criteria:
• Have at least 24 months of qualifying full-time job experience in the 36 months preceding your application submission;
• Language testing revealed a score of 5 on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB);
• One year of post-secondary study in Canada or its equivalent in a foreign country;
• Pass a check for admission (health, criminality, and security).
Work experience that qualifies
The following information is provided by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on its work experience requirements for pilots:
• You must have completed at least 24 months of full-time work within the last 36 months prior to applying for a pilot position.
• The job experience must be classified as 4411 or 4412 in the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
• Your employment experience must have been in one of these occupations; it cannot be a combination of the two.
• You must demonstrate that your employment matched the NOC job description and that you fulfilled the majority of the primary responsibilities.
• Your employment experience does not have to be continuous for 24 months. It only has to be a total of 24 months.
• A full-time job is defined as one that requires at least 30 hours of paid work each week.
